The Redesigned Sony mylo COM-2

Posted by bensto in PDA on 02 27th, 2008

Sony Mylo COM-2 redesigned enables you to keep in touch with all your e-mail and IM contacts without having to carry around a laptop. Whereas still curvy along the sides for a easy feel in the palms of your hand, the top and bottom of the Mylo COM-2 have been given a sleeker straight edge. Other enhancements include a larger 3.5-inch LCD (800 x 480-pixel resolution), a bump in Wi-Fi speed to 802.11g (in addition to 802.11b), and a built-in 1.3-megapixel camera. Other features include an easy-to-operate back-lit, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, an embedded microphone and speaker, multi-format digital audio player, and integrated Skype VoiP capabilities.

With the combined wireless LAN, you won’t have to be anxious about monthly bills or long-term contracts–just connect to any open Wi-Fi network and start chatting with friends using AIM, Google Talk, or Yahoo! Messenger. You can also browse the Web as well as send and receive email. Take pleasure in free Internet phone calls to and from any Skype enabled device and PC anywhere in the world, or Skype-Out to any phone number for a nominal fee.

The built in 1.3-megapixel camera lets you capture photos, edit them on the built in photo editor and–because the COM-2 features upload and download capability–post them directly to your blog or even to your Facebook page.

The iPhone 1.1.4 firmware update

Posted by bensto in SOFTWARE on 02 27th, 2008

it’s running as rumored. The iPhone 1.1.4 firmware update should be ready to you when you next connect your iPhone to iTunes. The file is 162MB, and the readme just lists “bug fixes” as far as changes go.

Multiple sources are claiming the ZiPhone jailbreaking software still works, but the ZiPhone site itself warns not to upgrade, as they want to test further. And, the site warns, you won’t get any support if you do upgrade (heh, heh).

The question is, does this update support the SDK (which was supposed to show up today but still hasn’t)? This is rather a hefty update for bug fixes, so that seems to be a decent possibility.

2009 BMW M3 Overview

Posted by bensto in BMW on 02 27th, 2008

It’s a combine of the portly adaptable we drove last year, and the edgy, electric V-8-powered GT BMW dropped on us last fall in the Spanish countryside. BMW’s established an M3 Convertible will join its lineup in Europe in the near future, and while preparations to bring the car to the U.S. aren’t complete, technical details of the new convertible have made their way on the Interwebs.

The M3 Convertible starts with the M-essentials, shared with the coupe and sedan sportscars already available from BMW. The powertrain for the new vehicle will be based around BMW’s 4.0-liter, which develops 420 hp in European spec, along with 295 pound-feet of torque. It’s a light-alloy block manufactured alongside BMW’s Formula One engines and weighs 445 pounds, 33 pounds less than the six-cylinder engine in the previous-generation M3. European-spec engines also feature regenerative braking.

Outfitted with a six-speed manual gearbox, the M3 Convertible should dash to 60 mph in less than 5.3 seconds; the stock M3 coupe delivers the same scoot in less than 4.8 seconds. Both coupe and convertible (and coordinating sedan) are limited to 155 mph.
Like the 3-Series convertibles, the M3 Convertible offers up a retractable hardtop with a steel frame and a three-piece roof system. The lid flips and stores itself in the trunk in 22 seconds, and is paired with a wind deflector and a specially programmed automatic climate control for open-air driving.
With the extra heft of body stiffening measures and the top mechanism, the M3 Convertible’s put on a few hundred pounds more than the coupe. So the Convertible version of the M3 gets a retuned suspension, along with body reinforcements and a high-performance braking system.

Antonov An-225 Mriya The Biggest Airplane

Posted by bensto in AIRPLANE on 02 27th, 2008

Currently the world’s largest aircraft, the An-225 Mriya (dream) stemmed from the need to transport large items for the Soviet space programme. Construction of the An-124 provided the basis for the new aircraft, Antonov using many of the same components to keep cost and development effort down.

The fuselage and wings are similar to the An-124, the cabin retaining the same cross-sectional dimensions but with increased length. To save weight the rear loading ramp is removed, but the An-225 retains the nose visor. Standard An-124 wings are grafted on to a new centre section, thereby increasing the span while keeping the engine installations the same. An additional pair of D-36T turbofans is fitted to the new centre section. raising thrust to an amazing 1377 kN (309,540lb). In order to support the increased weight, seven pairs of wheels are fitted to each side as opposed to five in the An-124. Outsize loads that cannot fit into the capacious cabin (including Buran and Energiya components) are carried ‘piggyback’, the load supported on two main attachments above the centre section. These supports and other smaller ones along the fuselage top are faired over when notin use. Toavoid buffetingfrom the ‘piggyback’ load, the An-225 has twin vertical fins mounted on the end of a large tailplane. The prototype made its first flight on 21 December 1988, and in March 1989 setup no fewer than 106 world and class records in one flight from Kiev, at a maximum take-off weight in excess of 500000kg (1.100,000lb). Only two have been completed so far. and the first flew with Buran on 13 May 1989. This combination made a dramatic appearance in the West for the first time a month later at the Paris Air Salon.
