The Concept Kizashi 3 in New York offers a real look at how Suzuki plans to expand U.S. sales via a high-performance sport sedan.
Obviously the closest to production of the Concept Kizashi series that was developed by Suzuki’s Advanced Design Group, each of the concepts is designed to reflect a dynamic athlete in motion.
The first Concept Kizashi took the form of a sport wagon with exaggerated dimensions, generating a lot of attention at the Frankfurt show. The design evolved with Concept Kizashi 2 in Tokyo, a crossover sport wagon that added all-road capability with raised ground clearance and all-wheel drive.
The bold styling of the first two in the series continues with Concept Kizashi 3, which has been refined to reflect the realities of a production vehicle. Due in 2010 as the brand’s flagship, Kizashi’s front fascia has a prominent chrome grille with sharply styled headlights that flow back into bulging fenders. Finished in silver, the Kizashi 3’s wide track and athletic stance are secured by 21-inch chrome wheels.
Illustrated by Suzuki as a mixing between functionality and refinement, Concept Kizashi 3 is powered by a 300-horsepower naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6 engine with plated cylinders, a technology developed by Suzuki’s motorcycle and WRC teams that saves weight and space. The all-wheel-drive configuration continues from Kizashi 2, utilizing Suzuki’s advanced i-AWD system combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission and paddle shifters for manual control.
